REF Runs Duvall 5K/10K : Fun Runs in the Sun

Dear Editor,

On June 5, 2010, Riverview Education Foundation hosted the 5th annual Duvall 5K/10K Runs under sunny blue skies. It was a great morning of competition and camaraderie and REF wants to say “thank you!” to Duvall and the surrounding running communities for your participation.  We also want to say “thanks!” to our amazing volunteers : this event was made possible by a dedicated group of course marshals, medical personnel, water station workers, registration volunteers, post-race food coordinators, sweeps, pacers, photographers and finish chute workers.  Without them, there would simply be no race. They do a tremendous job!

Hats off to our wonderful sponsors as well! Please visit them here: http://www.refweb.org/duvallrun_sponsors.htm   We sure are grateful for their help and support – their generosity makes fundraising for health and wellness programming in the Riverview School District a reality. We sincerely appreciate their hands-on community involvement.

So a big thanks to all of you and save the date: we’ll see you at the start line on June 4, 2011!

Wishing you the Best of Times,

Paige Denison, Race Director                           Dean Vergillo, Course Director

A Local Legend Comes to Life

Over the weekend Duvall experienced the pleasure of Sandblast.  The 16 year old event has a vibe of its own.  Music, art and a monster built out of sand on the beach in McCormick Park.  The sun filled day is always a delight for the children who swim while on the beach sandcastles are erected under the tutelage of families and friends.

This year Joe Lee Davidson a favorite local artist stepped up and volunteered to be the sculpture for the themed Sasquatch chosen by the group as the central sculpture.  Joe Lee has never done sand carving before.   But if you had a chance to view the work you would never have known.   The detail was spectacular and Joe Lee welcomed the input and work of other sculptures and artist.  The children even helped as the sand needed to be kept moist and packed.

As the creature came into existence musicians played beautiful music, and artisans showed off their wares.  On the premises was local artist Dan Cautrell with a featured wood carving that will be made into a bench over the next month in South Korea.  Austin Koons along with a local delegation will be delivering and installing the bench featuring the word "friendship" really summed up the day.  (See City of Duvall)

Make it a great day!
